How to dispute a medical bill

Today, we are going to talk about how to write and dispute your medical bill.  The first thing you need to do is relax, take a deep breath and breath in and out slowly so that you can calm down.  The bill is not going to magically disappear so you might as well to slow down your body while you look at it patiently.

Before you can get started, you need to figure out what you are getting charged for for your hospital and/or emergency services.  So, immediately write a letter to the hospital asking for a detail description of the services that you received and their corresponding charges.  Getting a detail description of the charges will allow you to begin the process of scrutinizing the bills to figure out what is legitimate and what is not.

There could be double charges and clerical mistakes.  You might be getting billed for services you didn’t receive.  There might be test that you didn’t undergo.  Everything starts at with reviewing the bill closely.

After examining the bill, write a letter to the hospital disputing the erogenous charges with as much details and supporting information to assist them in understanding your position.  Then seat back and wait for them to respond.  Remember, the process always takes longer then you might want.  They have tons of cases and dispute letters that they need to investigate.  There are also a lot of documents and research that needs to go into each dispute so be calm and wait.
